On 27th October, Slave to Fortune was selected to be Amazon UK’s Kindle Deal of the Day (which, for an author, is a bit like being given a golden ticket to Willy Wonka’s chocolate factory).
It had some pretty strong company: (fellow Edinburgh resident) Ian Rankin’s new novel is currently the best-selling book in the UK and it’s no wonder to see a book about BREXIT included.
Unsurprisingly, with the power of Amazon’s marketing behind it, this promotion had a profound impact on my book’s sales. It was propelled back to the #1 bestseller on Kindle (UK) for Historical Thrillers and for YA Historical Fiction.
It was also the #2 bestseller on Kindle overall for all Young Adult fiction, eclipsed only by Philip Pullman’s newly released Belle Sauvage: Book of Dust. (Coincidentally Philip Pullman’s sister is a former colleague of mine.)
This promotion was a one-off, and certainly illustrates the power of Amazon’s marketing; fingers crossed, it has helped the novel to reach new audiences across the country. I hope they (you) like it.
Even though the promotion has now ended, I’d like to think that the price of the book is well worth it for the read (and it’s still free to download for Amazon Prime customers).
Here’s hoping that Amazon USA or Amazon India choose Slave to Fortune for a Daily Deal at some point in the future!
